Independent hospitals are regulated by the Care Quality Commission and shown on their own here — they are never ranked against NHS hospitals. The CQC regulates both sectors on the same five inspection questions, but NHS waiting-time, A&E and outcome statistics do not apply to independent providers, so the two are not comparable and are kept structurally separate on this site.
