What we show
- Total A&E attendances per board (all emergency care facilities, including minor injury units)
- The share of attendances seen within 4 hours — Wales's A&E standard is 95%
- The same 4-hour figure for Major Emergency Departments only, excluding minor injury units
Caveats
- Wales runs its NHS separately from England and Scotland; its A&E standard (95% within 4 hours) is measured independently, so these figures are NOT comparable across nations and are never ranked together.
- The all-facilities figure includes minor injury units and other minor emergency departments, which see lower-acuity patients faster and lift the combined percentage. We surface the Major Emergency Departments-only figure alongside it as the more meaningful measure of major A&E performance — the same nuance as England's Type-1 breakdown.
- Reported per health board, not per hospital — Wales does not publish this dataset at hospital level.
- Only the 4-hour target rows are used; StatsWales also publishes 8-hour and 12-hour target breakdowns which we do not currently show.
