Healthcare-associated infections (HCAI)
Published by UK Health Security Agency · Official source
Update schedule
- Monthly case counts, released within the quarterly mandatory-surveillance publication.
Level of detail
- NHS trust
What we show
- Monthly case counts for MRSA, MSSA, E. coli, Klebsiella and Pseudomonas bacteraemia, and C. difficile infection
- Split by onset: total cases, and the hospital-onset healthcare-associated subset (most likely acquired in hospital)
- Summarised on profiles as cases in the last 12 months, with a monthly hospital-onset trend
Caveats
- Reported per trust — the same figures apply to every hospital the trust runs, always labelled 'Trust-wide'.
- Counts are small at trust level and vary month to month, so we lead with the rolling 12-month total rather than a single month.
- The most recent, still-provisional month (flagged by UKHSA as within its reporting-delay period) is excluded until confirmed.
- Case counts are not adjusted for hospital size or bed-days; a larger trust will tend to record more cases.
