CQC care directory & inspection ratings
Published by Care Quality Commission · Official source
Update schedule
- Monthly directory file for the overall rating; the domain, service-level and report-link detail is polled weekly from the CQC Syndication API and changes as inspections publish.
Level of detail
- Individual location (each hospital building is registered separately)
What we show
- Latest overall rating: Outstanding, Good, Requires improvement, or Inadequate
- The five key-question ratings (safe, effective, caring, responsive, well-led), from the CQC Syndication API
- Rating publication date and last inspection date
- A link to the location's full CQC report and inspection history on cqc.org.uk
- Per-service ratings (e.g. surgery, maternity, critical care, outpatients) for locations CQC rates by service rather than with one overall — each with its own rating and, where published, its own key-question breakdown
- Location address, contact details and inspection category
Caveats
- Ratings can be several years old — always check the publication date shown.
- Some locations are not yet rated ('Not yet rated').
- The five key-question ratings are shown only where the CQC rates the location as a whole. Large multi-service NHS hospitals are often rated per service (e.g. maternity, critical care) rather than with a single location-wide rating, so the five-question breakdown may not appear for them.
- Per-service ratings are never combined or averaged into a location-wide overall — CQC did not publish one for these locations, so we don't invent one. Service names are CQC's own; a service CQC has since stopped rating separately is removed from the list on the next sync, not left stale.
- Sourced from the CQC Syndication API (api.service.cqc.org.uk), the same live API CQC's own website reads from — figures may differ briefly from the monthly directory file if a rating changed between the two updates.
