What we show

  • Response rate and number of respondents to the survey at the trust
  • An overall 0-10 rating of care, plus a curated set of headline questions spanning the cancer pathway — GP referral, diagnosis, treatment decisions, hospital care, side effects and ongoing support — each shown as the % of patients giving the most positive answer, alongside the national average

Caveats

  • The headline scores are CASE-MIX ADJUSTED, so trusts serving different patient populations can be compared more fairly.
  • This is a voluntary, self-selected survey of people treated for cancer — a lower score is a prompt to look closer, not proof of poor care.
  • "Better" or "worse" is a STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE call, not a raw comparison of means — we test the trust's own adjusted score against the survey's published 95% expected range for a trust of its size (the same expected-range model the CQC surveys use), not against the national average directly. A trust that scores above the national average on paper can still show as 'about the same' if it stays inside the expected range.
  • A question is only shown here where enough people at the trust answered it — CPES suppresses a question's result when fewer than 10 respondents answered it, and we only show a value the survey actually published, never an inferred or estimated one.
  • We show a curated subset of the survey's scored questions, not every question NHS England publishes.
  • Reported per trust — the same figures apply to every hospital the trust runs, always labelled 'Trust-wide'.
  • England only. There is no NHS 'pass mark' for this data. It never appears in BadgePanel, a ranking, or a league table anywhere on the site.
